Cirrus Design Corporation, a recognized global leader in the manufacturing of personal aircraft, announced today at the Airplane Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Expo, its combined Private and Instrument Curriculum is now available. The textbook and syllabus is designed for new pilots, and blends the Private Pilot and Instrument Rating Courses into one seamless course.
“As Cirrus technology of airplanes and avionics have advanced our industry, training curriculum has largely remained the same, “said Cirrus Director of Flight Operations Bill Stone. “We believe very strongly that training is a matter of on-going safety and training must also move into the 21st century. The new Cirrus curriculum is a product of next-generation training philosophies based on the premise that today’s pilots need not only to be good “stick and rudder” pilots but they also need to be aircraft system managers”.
The Syllabus is a collaborative effort between Dr. Paul Craig, from Middle Tennessee State University and Cirrus Flight Standards. The Syllabus has 62 lessons, divided into five strands, with three main tenets to the curriculum: Scenario Based Training, Learner-Centered Grading, Single-Pilot Resource Management. While there are some Cirrus-specific items in the textbook, Cirrus feels strongly about allowing any new pilot the opportunity to learn to fly with this course, no matter the airplane type.
Both student and instructor versions will be available at the end of November, and may be purchased from ASA or the Cirrus Connection Pilot Shop.
